I met the most kind pure of heart woman, Karen Robbins, in June of 1990 when I arrived in Fulda, Germany 8.5 months pregnant with a 2.5 year old in tow. Karen and Jon welcomed us with loving arms as our host family. They immediately loved our 2.5-year-old, Danielle, as their own. Karen and I spent many hours together and frequented the PX, an on-base store, pretty much weekly. Karen loved jewelry, especially diamonds. When I went into labor with our second daughter, Leah, Jon and Karen were the one’s we called to come stay with Danielle when we went to the hospital to deliver Leah. Then two months later they were there once again when I almost lost my life to complications post the birth of our second daughter. I have never and will never forget Karen coming to see me in the hospital to pray with me. She gave me one of the diamond necklaces she purchased while we were together and said, “Your life means more to me than any piece of jewelry.” Because that is the kindhearted person she was. Ironically, or maybe not, unbeknownst to me that Karen was battling Covid, I gave that very necklace to my second born the week that Karen went into the hospital.
Karen will forever be in my heart.
Jon, I love you and the unconditional love and kindness you and Karen showed our family all those years ago. My thoughts and prayers are with you always.
