Katherine Jalaseelan's Obituary
On November 19, 2013, Katherine Joseph Jayaseelan, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away at the age of 86 surrounded by her husband, children, and grandchildren. Born in Hyderabad, India, on July 11, 1927. She received her nursing degree from Kalayani Hospital in Madras, India, and went on to become the director of its nursing school. She moved with her husband and four children to Lubbock, TX in 1969. There, she received her Bachelor’s of Science in Child Development from Texas Tech University while working as a nurse in the ICU of Lubbock’s Methodist Hospital. After graduation, she became a nurse at Lubbock State School, where she continued to work for 20 years. She was a humanitarian that loved gift-giving, phone calls with family and friends, laughing and telling good jokes, and the color pink. She is survived by her husband, Samuel Jayaseelan; her four children and their spouses, Suneetha & Peter D’Apice, Drs. Chitra & Joshua Fine, Dr. Nirmal & Preeti Jayaseelan, and Mithran & Samantha Jayaseelan; and her 12 grandchildren, Hannah, Jonathan, Rachel, Samantha, Elizabeth, Emily, Zubin, Joseph, Meera, Kirin, Tony, and Aria. Memorial service will be at 2:30 PM on Sunday, November 24, 2013 at Preston Hollow United Methodist Church, 6315 Walnut Hill Lane Dallas, Texas 75230.
