Katherine Elyse Passmore's Obituary
Katherine Elyse Passmore, known by all as Katie, was born September 8, 1996, at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas, TX, and passed peacefully on January 28, 2023.
Born at 28 weeks and weighing 1lb, 4oz, Katie was in the NICU for 3 ½ months. While she faced health challenges her entire life, Katie was a joy to all she met, and Heaven has more smiles with Katie there.
Preceded in death by loving grandparents, Bill and Sue Passmore; Sherman and Raye Birdsong and great-grandmother, Verlie McCaffree.
Katie is survived by a big and adoring family: mother, Mary Markey and stepfather, Jim Markey; father, Jeff Passmore; step-mother, Crystal Passmore; siblings, Zachary, Brianna, Nicholas, Jameson, Katelyn, Sophia, Jeffrey, and Jackson. Uncle Earl Bird-song and wife, Mary; Aunt Sarah Lackey and husband, Mike; Uncle Sherman Birdsong; Aunt Julie Passmore Cincotta and husband. Tom; cousins, Mamie, Wyatt, and Garrett Cincotta; Madi-son McGaughey, Melissa McGaughey and husband, Matt; Kristy Lackey; Raye Anne Birdsong-Fair and wife, Amy; Mary Birdsong and husband, Blake; Sherman Birdsong; Lowell Birdsong and wife, Gwynn; Brandon Birdsong; and Hillary Birdsong. In addition her great aunts, Elyse Albright, Linda Muelker, Dianne Albright, and Phyllis McCaffree; great uncle, Duffey Albright, special second cousins and Ray and Dolores Longoria.
Katie’s caregivers, who loved and cared for her like she was their own child and became our family, include Maria Elena Gar-cia, who was Katie’s care companion for 15 years; Shana Posey, who was with Katie for the past year; and her longtime caregiver, Madai Cabrera.
Katie was always surrounded by excellent therapists, teachers, doctors and friends who helped her to live her life to the fullest. She attended schools in the Richardson Independent School District for 19 years. Stults Road Elementary for PPCD, Prestonwood Elementary, North Junior High and J.J. Pearce High School where she was educated and befriended by the most wonderful students, educators, administrators, bus drivers, nurses, staff and therapists.
Katie was very involved in the community and loved the different activities and organizations that gave so much happiness and meaning to her life, including Connecting Point of Park Cities; Belong Disability Ministry at Highland Park United Methodist Church; the Spotlight Theater Program; Chance’s Café; Camp Summit; SEEK Camp; and HEROES.
Family dogs Gemma and Buster made Katie smile every day, as did the music of Taylor Swift. She especially enjoyed anyone (or her animals) being disciplined and would laugh when it happened. Her infectious smile that could melt hearts will always be remembered Katie had a wide variety of friends and fans all over town and was loved by all who met her.
Visitation will be Friday, February 3, from 5:30-7:30pm at the Restland Funeral Home 13005 S. Greenville Avenue Dallas, TX 75243. A Celebration of Life will be Saturday, February 4 at 11:00am in the main sanctuary at Highland Park United Methodist Church. A reception will follow in the Great Hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Katie Passmore Memorial Fund which will be used to contribute to the many organizations that enriched Katie’s life and others with special needs.
