Dr. Katheryn Joy Robertson-Towns' Obituary
ROBERTSON-TOWNS, KATHERYN JOY, M.D. Passed away at University Hospital, November 21, 2010. A San Antonio native, she was born May 29, 1936, to Catherine Wright and William H. Robertson. A 1954 graduate of the city’s Thomas Jefferson High School, she completed her B. A. Degree at UT Austin in 1958 and was accepted at UT Southwestern Medical School the same year, receiving her M. D. degree in 1962. After completing her residency training and Fellowship in pulmonary medicine, she joined the staff of the Dallas VA Hospital. In 1970, Joy rejoined UT Southwestern as a faculty member, retiring as an Associate Professor in 2001. Dr. Robertson was a member of the Dallas County Medical Society and the Texas Medical Association. She served on the board of the Texas Thoracic Society and was an officer in the American Lung Association, Texas chapter. She also served as a member of the Advisory Council to the National Institutes of Health. Joy is survived by her husband of 50 years, George M. Towns of Dallas. A celebration of her life will be held at Restland Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, November 24th at 10:00 A.M. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 23rd. Graveside services will be held in San Antonio at Sunset Memorial Park on November 27th. Special gratitude is extended to the entire oncology staff at UT Southwestern for their care and concern.
