Kathleen Breard Byrne's Obituary
Byrne, Kathleen of Dallas died peacefully on January 14, 2013. She was born October 9, 1911 on a farm near Bernice, LA. She was the last surviving sibling of 12 children born to Sarah Frances Andrews and Joseph Douglas Harrell. As Valedictorian of her high school class she earned a scholarship to L.S.U. where she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega and met her first husband Jack H. Breard. She and Jack married in 1934 and moved to Dallas in 1936. After Jack’s death in 1960, Kathleen married H. Muse Womack of Daytona Beach, FL in 1963. Muse died suddenly in 1965 and she returned from Florida to Dallas where she met H. Thomas Byrne. They married January 19, 1969. Kathleen and Tom moved to Taos, NM in 1974 and built a beautiful adobe home by an arroyo outside of town and made many lifelong friends. They moved to Athens, TX in 1986 where they were active in the Athens community. Kathleen volunteered at the Athens Hospital until age 90. In 2002, they moved to Dallas and have resided at Edgemere in recent years. Kathleen was beautiful both inside and out. She was a woman of deep faith and read the Bible daily. She loved her family and’ friends, babies, reading, cooking, architecture and design and travel. She was not a morning person but was known to get up at dawn to go fishing. She entertained family and friends graciously and her table was a place to enjoy both delicious meals and good conversation. Her boiled caramel icing was renowned. She is survived by her beloved husband Tom; children Jack Breard (Barbara), Mike Breard (Angela), Ben Breard (Janice), Nancy Shelton (Jim); step-children, Tom Byrne (Laurel), Tim Byrne (Melanie), Kevin Byrne (Jeanne), Brian Byrne (Marla), Sean Byrne (Jere ), Terence Byrne (Margaret); 28 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. She is also survived by brother-in-law, Reneau Breard (Anne); sister-in-law, Mary Edith Breard Hayes; brother-in-law, Charles Byrne (Jo) as well as numerous nephews, nieces and other family members. One step-daughter Maureen Byrne Valentine predeceased her. A memorial service will be held at Ellis Chapel, Park Cities Baptist Church, January 24, 2013 at 2:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Retina Foundation of the Southwest, 9900 N.
