Kathleen "Grammy" Heatwole Whitmore's Obituary
Kathleen “Grammy” Whitmore, Harrisonburg, VA native but long-time resident of the Plano, TX area, passed away Tuesday the 13th of December. Born October 2nd, 1930 as the only girl in the family of 4 brothers, Kathy grew up humbly on a farm and married at 17 to Ralph Whitmore, starting a family not long after. She took great pride in working for Sears in Roanoke, VA for 25 years before retiring and moving to Plano, TX where she took up “Nannying” for several families over the next 25 years. Kathy enjoyed gardening, making Christmas candies, and running after little ones. She enjoyed her morning newspaper with coffee and attending any and all events for the children she helped raise. She is survived by a brother, Laird Heatwole of Moneta, VA; her daughter, Susan Bailey and son-in-law Mike Bailey, with whom she lived with for 23 years after the loss of her husband; her son Robert Whitmore and daughter-in-law Lore Whitmore of Highland, IL; four grandchildren, Leisa Bailey and Lindsey Atchison and her husband Tom; Tonya Troxell and her husband Kyle; and Justin Whitmore and his wife Lori. “Grammy” was blessed to become a great-grandmother and is survived by two great grandchildren- Ethan and Wyatt Troxell. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made to the American Cancer Society. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted into Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75243.
