Kathleen Marie (Swift) Metevier's Obituary
Kathleen Marie (Swift) Metevier, age 81, passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully, in the arms of her husband at their home in Allen, TX, on Friday, February 21, 2025.
Kathy was a loving and devoted wife to her husband of 62 years. She was the proud mother of her three beloved children, grandmother to five grandchildren, and great grandmother to one great-grandson. Kathy was also a loving aunt to her many nieces and nephews.
Most of all, Kathy will remain known for her devotion to the Lord through her Catholic faith, through hours of daily prayer, and through her passion and devotion to the Eucharist at Mass and in adoration.
Kathy has been described by many as a loving, sweet, and inspirational figure. She had an innate ability to make friends and to truly know and care about each of them in a personal and loving manner. The outpouring of support from so many who knew her and shared their stories of her impact on them is a testament to the fact that she was continually working to be an ambassador of her faith by trying to sew seeds of love as a disciple of Christ everywhere she went.
Kathy enjoyed many different interests throughout her life. She was an avid bowler and golfer. She loved playing games and cards with family and friends. Her love of all things medical led her to pursuing and earning her degree as a Certified Registered Medical Assistant. She was the top student in her class, and she loved her time working with doctors to provide care for her patients. Her favorite job was working for an OB/GYN where she was able to assist in the delivery of babies.
Above all, Kathy’s greatest love was her role as a wife, mother and grandmother. She was a meticulous homemaker and housewife, and there was nothing she would not do for any member of her family. They were her greatest joy.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, John and Julia Swift; her sister Betty Finnegan (and her husband, Jack) and her sister Jean Ansonia (and Jean’s son, Kathy’s beloved nephew, Tom). She also was preceded in death by countless “fur babies” who left their paw-prints all over her heart.
Kathy is survived by her husband Jim and their dog Rudy; her children, Dan Metevier (and wife, Beverly), Julie Murtha (and husband, Mike), and Ken Metevier (and wife, Kristi). She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Ashley Palmer (husband, Tanner), Michael Murtha (wife, Lexi), Jason Metevier, Sean Murtha, and Kenny Metevier, as well as her grandchildren through marriage, Meghan Moore and Alyson Murtha, and her great grandson, Oliver Palmer.
Services for Kathy will be: A visitation and rosary on Tuesday, February 25 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Restland Funeral Home located at 13005 Greenville Avenue in Dallas.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 26 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church at 6306 Kenwood in Dallas. Immediately after Mass, her burial will take place at Restland Memorial Park in Dallas.
