Kathryn Phillips' Obituary
passed into the arms of her God on Friday, February 29, 2008 at the age of 94. In her lifetime, Kathryn touched many lives with her humor, generosity, love, and compassion. Born on December 27, 1913 in Omaha, NE to Guy A. and Hattie Trier Fletcher, she graduated from high school in Wichita Falls before moving to Dallas with her parents and three siblings. In June of 1934, Kathryn married Otho M. Phillips, and together they built their family home in 1940, where they raised their family. They celebrated 51 years of marriage together before Otho’s death. She was known for her custom-design hats, creative hobbies and sewing, and played an integral role in the lives of her grandchildren. Kathryn was an energetic and faithful member of First Presbyterian Church of Dallas for 75 years. She served as a teacher for the two-year-old class; a leader of the high school youth group; an Elder; and she was actively involved with the Stewpot, the Keenagers group, and the Anderson-Lydian Sunday School Class. Fully embracing the wonder of life, Kathryn found energy through her family, volunteerism and great travel adventures. She rode camels in Cairo, drank tea in Russia, and enjoyed trips across the U.S. with her family. Kathryn is survived by her son Fletcher Phillips and wife Charlotte and her daughter Gretchen Hamm and husband Ralph. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Kathryn Hamm and partner Amy Walter; Matt Phillips; Ralph Hamm III and wife Meggan; Tom Phillips and wife Lisa. Great grandsons surviving her are Austin Phillips, Hunter Phillips, Tyler Phillips, Ralph Hamm IV and Caleb Hamm.
