Katie Mae Lyon's Obituary
Katie Fox Lyon was born in Dallas, TX on April 2, 1939, to Katie Mae Fox and Junius B. Fox. She passed away peacefully on December 27, 2023, in Rockwall, TX at the age of 84. Katie graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas, TX and worked for Exxon Mobil for several years. In her later years, Katie worked for a market research firm in Dallas.
She met the love of her life, Thomas Lyon at a roller-skating rink in Dallas. They were married in December 1959 and had five children – Gary, Kathy, Michael, Billy and Debbie.
Katie enjoyed her family, her dogs, cats, roller skating in her younger years, playing Bingo, reading magazines, sewing, cooking. shopping, painting ceramics and collecting figurines and dolls. She also enjoyed gospel music, especially those sung by Elvis Presley. Her favorite times were spent with her children and grandchildren, especially during the holidays. Christmas was her favorite time of the year when she would cook and decorate her house for huge family get togethers. Her pecan pie recipe will go down in infamy and a meal was not complete without sweet tea.
She is preceded in death by her mother Katie Mae Fox, father, Junius B. Fox, brother Junius B. Fox, husband Thomas O. Lyon, mother-in-law Grace Lyon, brothers in law Jack Morgan, Russell Roberts, George Lyon, and sisters in law Ruth Lyon Rose, Jane Morgan, and Louise Roberts.
Katie is survived by her children Gary Lyon (wife Kim), Kathy Mason (husband Ben), Michael Lyon (wife Susy), Billy Lyon (wife Erika) and Debbie McKinney (husband Brian). She is also survived by her 12 grandchildren Christopher Mason (wife Georgina), Jeffrey Mason, Matthew Mason, Kayla Mason, Jeremy Lyon, Julie Lyon, Andrew Lyon, John Lyon, Tommy McKinney, Kara McKinney, Daeshaun Suragh and Kaitlyn Lyon as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at Restland Funeral Home (Wildwood Chapel) at 2:00 pm on Monday, January 8, 2024. 13005 Greenville, Ave., Dallas, TX 75243. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 pm on Monday January 8, 2024, at Wildwood Chapel.
