Kelly Rex Marzett's Obituary
MARZETT, KELLY REX was born July 7, 1949 in Bearden, Oklahoma. He was the baby of the family, the 10th child born to Golden and Margie Marzett. He was baptized at Pleasant Hill A.M.E church as a child. Without a doubt, Kelly loved the Lord and was “right” with Him. Upon graduation from high school Kelly enlisted in the army, serving his country during the Vietnam War for which he received a Purple Heart. During his service, Kelly played baseball in Europe and was a star athlete. Kelly was a country boy at heart and competed in rodeos as a steer wrestler earning numerous awards until he decided to marry and raise a family. He later retired as a foreman from A&B Gunite. He married the love of his life, Janet Leah Ellis, in 1986. To their union two children were born: Kelli Dawn Marzett and Dayton Ellis Marzett. Kelly was a proud man, a man completely devoted to his faith, family and friends. He had a kind and generous spirit. He was humble, grateful and compassionate. Kelly was a man of deep faith, his life an open book. His moral compass pointed north – consistent with his actions and words. As a distinctive trait of the Marzett family, Kelly too was a gifted cook and enjoyed spending time perfecting his craft, creating and marketing and his own special spices and his famous smoked meats. Although not a paid professional, he was often sought out by many to cater special events. He loved serving others and was gracious host, giving guests the “red carpet” treatment. You were made to feel welcome and special at the Marzetts home. Kelly was a horse lover and owned several horses and cows, possessing extensive knowledge regarding horse pedigree. Throughout his illness, he would often spend much of his day at the stable caring for them. It was evident they brought him a sense of peace and joy. He also had a green thumb and was a horticulturist at heart. He took great pride in landscaping and maintaining his yard, keeping it beautiful year round. The brilliant colors from God’s pallet were abundantly displayed on his canvas. Kelly leaves to cherish his memory his wife of almost 26 years, Janet Ellis Marzett; daughter, Kelli Dawn Marzett; son, Dayton Ellis Marzett; sisters, LaFlora Williams (Robert), Gwen Marzett, LaVonne Shaw (Orville), Ellen Wright; brother, Dayton Marzett (Jackie); mother-in-law, Mildred Ellis; sister-in-laws, Betty Marzett, Deborah Favors, Brenda Jordan; brother-in-law, Paul Mitchell; nieces, nephews and a host of other family members and friends. Kelly is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Frances Mitchell; and brothers, Golden Jr., Britt and Lloyd Marzett. Visitation is Monday, October 8, 2012 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at St. John Baptist Church, 800 S. Kimball Avenue, Southlake, TX, 76092. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at 11 AM at the same location. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Legacy Brain Foundation, 7777 Forest Lane, Suite G648, Dallas, TX 75230.
