Kenneth Ivan Kailey's Obituary
Ken Kailey, of Dallas, was born May 28, 1922, to Albert and Hattie Alstot Kailey in Holdrege, Nebraska. He graduated high school in 1940 and moved to Washington, DC to work in the War Department and attend night school. Ken enlisted in the Army Air Corp and served in WWII first as flight instructor, then as a troop carrier pilot in the European theater, mostly in Italy and North Africa. He continued to serve in the Air Force Reserves and attained the rank of Major. Ken graduated with a degree in architectural engineering from the University of Nebraska. He was a member of Beta Theta Pi. While there he met his future wife, Joan DeLamatre. They were married June 26, 1949, in Omaha, Nebraska. They moved to Dallas in 1955 so he could work for Centex Construction Company and later Centex Homes Corporation. He retired in 1985. He passed away on July 7, 2018, at the age of 96, and was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and siblings Ray, Merna, and Eva.Ken was deeply loved and respected by his children and friends. His survivors are his children Jane Cosby and husband Bob, Steve Kailey and wife Kim, Barbara Kailey, and grandchildren Kay and Julie Cosby, and Elizabeth Kailey.Visitation will take place at Restland Funeral Home on Sunday, July 15, from 3-5 p.m. Services will be held at the DFW National Cemetery, Monday, July 16, at 10:15 a.m. Memorial donations may be directed to Phelps County Historical Society (2701 Burlington St., Holdrege, NE 68949), Folds of Honor (foldsofhonor.org) or a charity of your choice.Funeral arrangements for Mr. Kenneth Ivan Kailey have been faithfully entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Cemetery, which is located at 13005 Greenville Ave., at the intersection of Restland Road, Dallas, Texas 75243, and can be reached at (972) 238-7111.
