Kenneth Townley Lurich, Jr.'s Obituary
Kenneth Townley Lurich, Jr., born on August 20, 1942 in East Orange, New Jersey, passed away in Dallas, Texas on January 22, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth Townley Lurich, Sr. and Sue Phelps Lurich; and, 2 grandsons, Daniel and Jack Lurich. He is survived by his wife, Lyn Lurich; daughter, Leslie Lurich Buxkemper and her husband, Bruce; son, Ryan Kenneth Lurich and his wife, Mona; 6 grandchildren, Trey Shaunfield, Austin Shaunfield, Preston Lurich, Hudson Jake Lurich, Mackenzie Lurich, and Kennedy Lurich; 2 sisters, Lynda Lurich Tonick and her husband, Jim; Judy Lurich Green; and, numerous nieces and nephews and other extended family.Ken was a proud graduate of North Texas State University, now the University of North Texas and a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. After graduation, Ken was a successful commercial real estate broker.Ken was a devoted husband and loved his wife Lyn since they met on a blind date after high school. They had a wonderful life sharing 53 plus years of marriage. And in that time they traveled the world including Europe, Asia, and exotic fishing trips to Cabo San Lucas and Alaska.Ken loved his children and was an active father coaching his childrens’ sports teams and participating in Indian Princess and Guides with them. Ken had many passions including hunting, fishing, tennis and baseball. His passion for tennis started at an early age learning from his father who was a tennis pro, and he, in turn, passed this love along to his daughter Leslie. Ken inspired the love for baseball in his son Ryan and coached him through junior high. Later, he loved spending time fishing at his lake house and enjoyed having his family there even more.Ken’s most cherished possession was a red Shelby Cobra car that he built himself. His love of cars quickly became a family passion that is still shared by both his children and grandchildren.A visitation will be held Monday,January 28, 2019 from 1:30 – 2:30 pm at Restland’s Memorial Chapel with services to follow. Flowers or a donation in Ken’s memory to the Wounded Warriors Project, the Union Gospel Mission, or the SPCA would be greatly appreciated. Restland’s Rembrandt florist can provide flowers directly.
