Kenneth Duwayne Powers' Obituary
Kenneth Duwayne Powers, age 88, of Richardson, TX, was born on May 3, 1935, in Wichita Falls, TX to John Earl Powers and Gladys Pearl Powers. He went to be with his Lord on October 28, 2023.
On June 7, 1958, Kenneth married the love of his life, Billie Jo Taylor in Wichita Falls, Texas, whom he met at church. They shared a loving, memory-filed life together for 65 years. Shortly after graduating from Midwestern State University, Kenneth enlisted in the army and served for 3 years where he held the rank as 1st Lieutenant in the 572 Ordinance Detachment working with surface-to-surface missiles.
They settled in Richardson, TX, where they raised their two children, Cindy and Scott. He pursued a career at TxDot and worked as an engineer, and he loved to talk about all the area roads he had a part in designing. He eventually retired in 2013 after 50 years.
He had many hobbies that dealt with his home and had great pride in taking care of it. He was constantly working in the yard and did countless home improvement projects. Kenneth excelled at woodworking and made numerous pieces of beautiful furniture. When it was time to take a break, he also enjoyed watching the local sports teams.
Kenneth was greatly devoted to God and his loving family; he became a Christian at the age of 12 years old. He had joined the First Baptist Church of Richardson in 1964, where he and Billie faithfully served the Lord for over 50 years in the Children's Ministry. He had a wonderful sense of humor and took pleasure in being a simple man who enjoyed a simple lifestyle. Though he was a man of few words, he would have done anything for anyone.
Kenneth is survived by his loving wife, Billie Jo Powers of Richardson, Texas; daughter, Cynthia Powers of Richardson, Texas; and son, Scott Powers and his wife, Kelly of Frisco, Texas.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Gladys Pearl (Brown) Powers; father, John Earl Powers; and brother, Donald Lewis Powers.
