Kenneth Leroy Smith's Obituary
Mr. Kenneth Leroy Smith, 87, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 7, 2021, at his home in Sunnyvale, TX. He was born on April 20, 1934 to loving parents Cecil and Elizabeth Smith in Salina, Kansas.
Ken married the love of his life Carolyn Davis on December 27, 1975 in Garland, TX and they were married for 42 years until Carolyn’s passing on July 22, 2018. They lived a very active lifestyle, enjoying golf, tennis, traveling, and square dancing with the Kissin Cuzzins Square Dance group. Although a perfectly matched couple, it was widely known that Carolyn was the better athlete. Although never one to gloat, Carolyn would graciously accept the win(s) and Ken was proud to provide a competitive match. They always had fun as long as they were together. Truly a match made in heaven!
Ken is a 1952 graduate of Salina High School in Salina, Kansas. He served in the Armed Forced (Army) from September 30, 1953 until his honorable discharge on July 23, 1956. He served 15 months in Korea. He studied at Brown-Mackie School of Business and went on to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Business from Kansas State Teachers College of Emporia in 1961 and passed his CPA shortly after. Throughout his career, Ken worked for numerous firms as an Accountant.
Ken is survived by two sisters, Joan Hultman Kuich of DePere, WI and Shirley Johnson (Jorge) of Sioux Falls, SD, brother-in-law Ed Davis (Karin) of Houston, TX, sister-in-law Florence (Leon) Grawn of Oklahoma City, OK. His oldest brother Larry Smith preceded him in death in 2014. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, their children and his beloved little dog, KayCee. Ken was loved by family and friends and will be greatly missed by all.
The family requests any memorials be made in Ken’s honor to the American Heart Association or to the American Cancer Society.
