Kenneth Lee Terwey's Obituary
Terwey, Kenneth Lee was born March 24, 1936 in Nederland, Texas and along with his siblings was the first of the Terweys to be born American. After battling Pancreatic Cancer, Ken passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 4, 2012 in McKinney, Texas. Ken is preceded in death by his parents, Peter Terwey and Anka Bruinsma Terwey; and siblings, Gerritt, Peter, Wilma and Emma. He is survived by wife of 40 years, Marilyn Hood Terwey; daughters, Kelly Hoodwin, Robin Rhoades, Beth Duggar and Amanda Terwey; sister, Lucy Terwey Stephens and husband, Martin Stephens; 6 grandchildren, Melody, Cody, Warren Jr., Samantha, Logan and Kevin; and 3 great grandchildren. Ken graduated from Northwestern University in Natchitoches, LA with his BS and MS and then detoured to the US Navy where he proudly served on the USS Forrestal and the USS Boxer. After serving he returned to Northwestern to complete his Doctorate of Physical Education. Upon graduation he pursued his career in Richardson, Texas at JJ Pearce High School. Ken achieved many honors during his 20 year tenure including Texas Swim Coach of the Year, 2 years in a row. After retirement he continued participating in the White Rock Marathon, numerous triathlons, running, bicycling and swimming. Family will receive friends on Friday, December 7, 2012 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Restland Funeral Home. Services will be at 3:00 PM on Saturday, December 8, 2012 at Restland Wildwood Chapel. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Scottish Rite Hospital or a charity of your choice.
