Kenneth Max Ward's Obituary
Obituary for Kenneth Max Ward
Mr. Kenneth Ward, age 90, of Forney, TX, was reunited with his beloved wife and family members on Saturday, January 1, 2022, as he passed away peacefully with his children by his side. He is survived by his daughter, LaNette Ward, and son, Tommy Ward, both of Forney. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Wilma Ward (nee Armstrong). Kenneth leaves his loved ones with unforgettable memories and loving stories. He will be sincerely missed by his loving family, friends, and all those who knew and loved him.
Kenneth was born to Mr. Leon Percival Ward and Ms. Hattie Geneva (Alexander) Ward on September 28, 1931, in Seger, Oklahoma. Mr. Leon Ward passed away when Kenneth was 5 yrs. old, leaving his Mother to raise 4 small children. She moved the 4 Ward children to Texas during WWII. Ken graduated from Borger High School in 1948, then attended Frank Phillips College in the Texas Panhandle. With the beginning of the Korean conflict, he enlisted in the U. S. Army. While stationed at Ft. Rucker, Al., he qualified as an "Expert" marksman. He reached the rank of Corporal during Assignment to the 288th Signal Company, which sent him to Italy. There he worked establishing international NATO communications during wartime and for the future. At the end of that tour, he was Honorably discharged and returned to civilian life in Texas.
Kenneth married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Wilma Lou Armstrong, in 1952. He began his retail management career with M.E. Moses Co., 5 & 10, which lasted for approx. 30 years. Ken and Wilma then purchased a Hardware business, which they owned throughout the next decade with their son, Tommy. After retirement from the "nuts and bolts" world, Ken worked as a Licensed Security Officer at various Raytheon locations until health issues forced his retirement from that post at the age of 85.
Ken loved fishing with Wilma and their friends while visiting their lake home, as well as teaching his kids to fish and water ski. He liked old Western movies and was an avid reader of Western novels and murder mysteries. He was also a "piddler" - always starting building projects, gardening tasks, and other creative "Kenventions" throughout his home and property. He was a very loving family man, a great Dad, and could have a sharp sense of humor while greeting you with a caring smile.
Kenneth is also survived by his sister, LaNita Ward Davis. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Ward, his parents, and brothers Charles Ward and Donald Ward,
Funeral services celebrating Kenneth's Life are scheduled on Wednesday, January 26, 2022, in the Memorial Chapel at Restland starting at 2:00. Visitation will be held from 11:00 - 1:00 prior to the service.
Kenneth will be laid to rest with full military honors at DFW National Cemetery at a future date.
The family would like to thank the staff at Texas Health Rockwall and Lakepointe Rowlett for their kindness and caring attention shown to Ken while he was in their care.
