Kent McCormack's Obituary
MCCORMACK, KENT Born May 26, 1939 in Dallas, TX. He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Ernest and Lenora McCormack; and son, Mark McCormack. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Linda Bieker McCormack; daughter and son-in-law, Madelyn and Dr. Steve Morgan; grandsons, Blake Kent McCormack, Garrett Loyd Morgan, William Kent Morgan; granddaughter, Hannah Kaylin Morgan; daughter-in-law, Laura Hollie Reno; brother, Wayne and wife Tatiana McCormack; brother-in-law and wife, Dr. William and Carolyn Bieker. Kent and Linda were married in 1961 while students at UT. Kent earned his PhD in physics at UT Austin in May of 1966. His first patent came in 1967. A simple dockside devise for detecting oil spills 3 miles off the coast. The patent is still in use for that purpose today. In 1966 Kent achieved an understanding of what makes infrared work and by 1977 he built TI’s first infrared lab. He became TI’s senior tech in 1979 and a TI fellow in 1985.
