Kermit Dean Coggshall's Obituary
Kermit Dean Coggshall passed away at his home in Dallas on February 8, 2019. He was born on December 26, 1938 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma to Mary and Anderson Coggshall. Kermit is survived by his wife Janis of 59 years, daughters Beth, Lisa (Steve), Diane (John); grandchildren Chad (Jessica), Jessica (Isaac), Todd, Hannah; great-grandchild Jack with another one due in September; brother John (Vally), sister Linda (Roger), nieces, nephews, cousins and many close friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Anderson Coggshall and his inlaws, Bessie and Alvin Groomes.Kermit grew up on a dairy farm in Iowa and was in the 4-H program where he groomed and showed brown swiss cows and received many blue ribbons at the county and state fairs. He was also a county officer. Kermit met his wife Janis Groomes when they started school in Kindergarten and shared many school memories thru twelfth grade and graduated from Shipley School in Iowa in the class of 1957. They were married in Nevada, Iowa on 12/19/59. Kermit graduated from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa in 1961 with a degree in Animal Husbandry and was a member of the Farmhouse Fraternity. Kermit proudly served in the US Army in Ft. Sill, Oklahoma and received the rank of Captain at the time of discharge.For over 60 years he worked in the meat trading business starting with Swift & Co in Omaha, Nebraska and St. Louis, Missouri. In the last 38 years he has owned and operated Midland Foods Distribution Inc. with his friend and partner. He loved to travel, fish, hunt, golf, cook, woodworking, the annual Turkey Trot, his two Yorkies Missy and Molly, lunch with his special group of men friends and his many, many friendships. He enjoyed his friends in the Dinner Club and RV Club; cooking special meals for them especially meat. As an active member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, he has held many leadership positions.As a brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend he will be greatly missed by all.The family wants to thank the staff at Faith Hospice and Right at Home for their excellent and attentive care.His final resting place will be the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery. A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, 12411 Templeton Trail, Farmers Branch on Saturday, 2/16/19 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, a contribution to the Memorial Fund at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church or your charity of choice is much appreciated.
