Kevin L. Perkins' Obituary
Kevin Leon Wesley Perkins was a lifelong learner, an adventurer at heart, and a man who never met a
stranger—only future friends. His energy, warmth, and humor lit up every room, matched only by his
kindness. Born on August 3, 1957, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to James Wesley Ray and Kay Leon Moore,
Kevin lived a life filled with curiosity, laughter, and a deep love for learning. He passed away peacefully
at his home on February 14, 2025.
A proud graduate of Olympic College in Bremerton, WA, Kevin earned dual degrees in Industrial Arts
Technology and Electronic Technology. His career spanned the world of electronics, with impactful roles
at AT&T Wireless, Microsoft, the Department of the Navy, Abbott Laboratories, and Lennox
International. A true tech whiz, he was always eager to understand how things worked.
Kevin often called himself a "professional student" and had a passion for photography, golf, scuba
diving, and camping. He was also an avid gun enthusiast. But his talents didn’t stop there—he was an
excellent cook, best known for his award-winning carrot cake, which he made with love for family and
friends.
In 2010, Kevin met the love of his life and best friend, LaTanya. They shared a love for the outdoors and
a special bond with their loyal companion, Sammy, a mixed-breed shepherd who was nearly human in
spirit. Kevin and LaTanya built a life filled with adventure, laughter, and unwavering support for one
another, making every moment together meaningful.
Faith was at the heart of Kevin’s life, guiding the way he treated others with kindness and compassion.
He believed that love and service went hand in hand. In 2024, he found a spiritual home at St. Luke
Community Church in Dallas under the leadership of Pastor Richie Butler, where his faith deepened,
bringing him peace and a strong sense of community.
Kevin was preceded in death by his parents, James Wesley Ray and Kay Leon Moore. He leaves behind
his loving wife of 15 years, LaTanya Faye Whitman, his son Anthony Vella, and his daughter Khaya
Brooks. He is also survived by his sisters, Mayola Perkins, Ettnytta Walton, Tommika Shinault Wilson,
and Jocyfia Howell; his brother, George Moore; his niece, Lakoya Walton Moore; his nephews,
Kenyonte' Shinault and Genesis Banks Moore; and a host of extended family and friends who loved him
dearly.
Though Kevin’s journey has come to an end, his love, laughter, and generous spirit will live on in the
hearts of those who knew him
