Khandoo Nagar's Obituary
Khandoo Nagar, 81, of Dallas, Texas passed away on July 31, 2017. He is survived by his wife, Urmila Nagar, his son Udit Nagar, daughter-in-law Ushma Upadhyay and his two grandchildren Dillon and Maya. Khandoo Nagar was born on December 1, 1935 in Maize Field, South Africa, a farming town in the Mpumalanga region of South Africa. He was born to Nagar Bhaga and Dhaniben Nagar and was the eighth of ten children. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering at the M.S. University in Baroda, India and completed post graduate studies in automation at Twickenham College of Technology in the United Kingdom. He then worked as an Engineer for about 10 years at Victoria Falls Hydroelectric Power Station on the Zambesi River in Livingston, Zambia. He married Urmila Khoosal on July 4, 1965 in Durban South Africa and the couple lived together in Livingston. Their son, Udit Nagar was born in 1970 in Bethal, South Africa. In 1978, the young family moved to Chicago, Illinois where they lived for one year. They then moved to Texarkana, Texas and finally to Dallas, Texas in 1983 when they purchased their Ace Hardware store when it was on Abrams Road. Over the years, they expanded their store to a space at 6420 Gaston Avenue and in 2015 they moved the store to 7331 Gaston Avenue where it stands today. Khandoo was a pillar of the community of east Dallas. With his wife, he owned and operated a successful Ace Hardware store in Lakewood and supported several local charities. Khandoo loved pottery, gardening, fine wine, and spending time with family and friends. Funeral service will be held at Restland Funeral Home of Dallas on Sunday, August 6, 2017, at 11:00a.m. in Memorial Chapel. Memorial donations may be made to the Creative Arts Center of Dallas in the name of Khandoo Nagar.
