Kortney Marie Drake's Obituary
Kortney Drake, 46, of Dallas, TX passed away unexpectedly on June 7, 2022 due to natural causes. Kortney was the proud daughter of Marian T. Drake and the late Kenneth W. Drake, Jr.. Kortney was born in Jackson, MS, but was raised in Dallas along with her sister and brothers. She was a graduate of Lake Highlands High School and spent some time studying at University of North Texas. Kortney had a rewarding and successful 20-year career in the banking industry where she developed lifelong friendships with colleagues and customers.
Kortney raised a smart and caring son, Steven, whom she loved dearly. She was his biggest supporter and cheerleader and her proudest moment occurred two weeks ago when Steven graduated Summa Cum Laude from Trinity University. Kortney, better known as Aunt Korky, was also a very loving aunt to all of her nieces and nephews. If any of them were in town, she would have plenty of hugs, laughter, and sweet treats for them. Kortney was a collector of purses and had Dallas’ largest private collection of nutcrackers (self-proclaimed). Kortney was a text-book impulse buyer and struggled to let a good deal pass her up, resulting in large quantities of cleaning supplies, laundry detergent, soaps and lotions, and DVDs.
Kortney is preceded in death by her father, Kenneth W. Drake, Jr.. She is survived by her son Steven Drake, her mother, Marian Drake, her sister, Kerrie Walling and spouse Wayne Walling of Kempner, TX; Kenny Drake and spouse Leslie Drake of Austin, TX; Kris Drake and spouse Stacy Drake of Midland, TX. She is also survived by her many nieces and nephews, Lila, Colt, Ty, Lily, Leah, Stran, Henry and Caden along with several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made to a cause that was near and dear to Kortney’s heart, Buckner Children and Family Services Dallas, located at 5310 Buckner Blvd, Dallas, TX 75227. Online donations can be made at www.buckner.org.
Celebration of Life will be held at Restland Funeral Home on Sunday, June 12, 2022 beginning at 3:00pm located at 13005 Greenville Ave., Dallas, Texas 75243 in the Event Center.
