Memorial services for Kurt Patrick McGrath, age 53 of Grandview, Texas will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, September 22, 2016 at the Alvarado High School Gymnasium. Reverend J. Daniel So will officiate with Dr. Kenneth Estes, Chris Magee and Hayden J. McGrath offering tributes. Visitation will be held from 5:30-7:30 PM Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at Grandview First United Methodist Church in Grandview, TX. Kurt Patrick McGrath was born on January 24, 1963 in Waukegan, IL son of Thomas Edward and Ella Mae Van Treeck McGrath. He passed away on Sunday, September 18, 2016 in Ellis County, Texas. Kurt attended Greenville College in Greenville, Illinois and ultimately received his Master’s Degree in Education from Tarleton State University. He was married to Janey Griffith on May 24, 1992 in Fort Worth, Texas, when they began swing dancing and never stopped. An avid fly fisherman, his love for the outdoors was always evident as he was frequently found at the closest body of water big enough to cast a line in (regardless of whether there were fish there or not). Kurt was always a competitor, beginning with his athletic pursuits in high school and college, and continuing through friendly games of basketball, pickle ball, and golf with his family and friends. Kurt found an additional outlet for his competitive streak and his passion for education as a football, soccer, and basketball coach at numerous schools around the area. Kurt’s dedication to education eventually culminated with his role as the Executive Director of Administration Services of Alvarado I.S.D. Kurt was one of a kind, there will never be another like him. Survivors include his loving wife, Janey McGrath of Grandview, TX, daughter, Wendy von Holstein and her husband Jason of Frisco, TX, son, Austin Hunt of Arlington, TX, son, Hayden McGrath of Camp Lejeune, NC, daughter, Raven McGrath of Grandview, TX, granddaughter Quinn von Holstein of Frisco, TX, parents, Edward Thomas and Ellamae McGrath of Keene, TX, sister, Karen McElyea and her husband Jon of Waukegan, IL, brother, Kevin McGrath and his wife Mary of Omaha, NE, twin brother, Keith McGrath and his wife Karin of Warsaw, IN, sister Kay Hood and her husband Danny of Arlington, TX as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other friends and relatives.
