L. G. Mantooth's Obituary
LG Mantooth, born July 21, 1939 in McKinney, TX passed away September 13, 2016 in Fort Worth, TX. LG was raised in Irving, TX for the majority of his life. His first love was for that of his family as he was a devoted loving, giving, ear pulling husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend to all that came into contact to him. His pride and joy was his business “Mantooth Construction” of Irving, TX that was established by his father William Garland Mantooth in 1949 with only a team of Horses. The business will continue under the direction of his wife Carol Mantooth and two sons Will and John Mantooth who have worked closely with their father for many years up until the day he passed. Both boys have vowed to carry out their fathers’ legacy and keep the business going in his honor. Born a cowboy and passed away a cowboy, LG was truly the definition of what a cowboy is. His career as a cowboy started out as a bull rider and bronc rider, he later took up calf roping and found that to be his true passion. As long as he was in the arena or on the back of a horse swinging a rope he was happy. The back of a horse to him was like another mans favorite recliner. That is where he was most comfortable and relaxed. Roping wasn’t just a hobby but a way of life. If he didn’t have his rope in his hand or his hat on his head, he wasn’t happy. Taking his granddaughter to the Rodeos was the ultimate honor to him. He loved teaching her how to be a cowgirl and spent countless hours with her in the arena, and on the road. This was his life and this made him happy. He was definitely a rare breed. He was the light of those who knew him and those who never had the opportunity missed out. He loved life and lived it to the fullest. He was a peacemaker and a forgiver and taught us all that life is like a rope horse, you can get in the ground good and catch your dreams with the first couple of swings and other times… Well, you just blame it on your horse. Happy Trails! Preceded in death by, father and mother, William Garland and Hazel Mantooth; infant son, Lemial Garland Mantooth Jr.; brother-in-law, Mikey Joe McCoy; nephew, Mikey Dwayne McCoy.
