La Verne Thornberry's Obituary
La Verne Thornberry died on August 4,2015. She was born June 22, 1924 in Emory, Texas to Marshall D. and Gracie J. Corrander-Wade. She is preceded in death by her husband, Captain Randall Thornberry, her only child, Loucain Dean (Lyndy) Santerre, brothers, sisters and her parents. She retired after a 30 year career with DOW OIL/DOW CHEMICAL. She was a woman who broke many barriers. In the early 1940’s she was a single mother with a career as a Secretary-Administrator, she went to night school to obtain her education in her career choice, she owned her home and car. She always attended Sunday School and Church. She sat with sick friends and family members all night and never missed a day’s work. Her passion was in giving to educational and college programs, veteran’s causes and supporting children in unfortunate situations. La Verne mentored many young woman and became their role model. She empowered young ladies to get their education and sponsored many in pursuing their secondary education. La Verne lived a fulfilled life. She was bubbly, energetic and an outgoing woman. She touched everyone she met. Randall and La Verne enjoyed travelling. They traveled to Alaska, Russia, Europe, Japan, China, Hawaii and all of the United States. La Verne’s joy was hosting and serving at teas, entertaining and volunteer work. She volunteered for twenty years at the Frontiers of Flight Museum. She had a giver’s heart and volunteered for various organizations for over 65 years. Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm Friday, August 7, 2015 at Restland Funeral Home. Graveside service will be held at 10:30 am Saturday, August 8, 2015 at Restland Memorial Park. Memorial service will be held at 11:30 am Saturday, August 8, 2015 at University Park United Methodist Church, 4024 Caruth Boulevard, Dallas, Texas 75225. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243 at Restland Road.
