LaJuana C. Brooks' Obituary
LaJuana Cotton Brooks was born on March 26, 1929, in Childress, Texas, to Almer and Juanita Cotton. After a long and beautiful life, she passed away in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, on March 8, 2023. A caring Christian, she was a prayer warrior for all her family and friends. LaJuana, with her beloved husband, Lynn Brooks, raised four children, loving them and their spouses, nine grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren.
Raised in Vernon, Texas, her family moved to Denton, Texas, so she could attend the University of North Texas (North Texas State University) where she earned the Bachelor of Business Administration. After graduation, she worked as church secretary at First Baptist Church of Denton and then taught in the Lewisville Independent School District and then Richardson High School. She met her husband in college where they both enjoyed college life, academia and became experts in the art of the “Jitterbug” which they danced to the delight of their family through the years. LaJuana and Lynn married after his service in the Korean conflict and settled in Carrollton, Texas. The family lived in Carrollton, Farmers Branch, Richardson, and Randolph, Texas. They were active members of Park Cities Baptist Church, Richardson Heights Baptist Church, and Prestonwood Baptist Church before relocating to Randolph, Texas.
LaJuana, “Grandmother”, loved her family and shared her love through her gifts of baking, cooking and family gatherings. All who knew her were blessed by a beautiful lady and her bountiful life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lynn Patrick Brooks; parents, Almer and Juanita Cotton; son-in-law, Jim Shaw and great-granddaughter, Harper Beth Swadley.
LaJuana is survived by her children, Debbie Shaw, Bob Brooks, Mary Swadley and Jeb Brooks (Ginger);
grandchildren, Katy Elson (Bobby), Spencer Shaw (Kerri), Stephen Shaw (Lisa), Abby Pierson (Aaron), Abe Swadley (Ashley), Luke Swadley, Dan Swadley (Ashley), Ben Brooks and Summer Flora (Corbin); twenty-two great-grandchildren: nieces, Joann Hutchens and Ginger Crowder and nephews, Bill Rosser and Richard Mullins.
The family will receive friends at a Visitation beginning at 1:00pm on Friday, March 17, 2023 at Restland's Memorial Chapel, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, Texas. Her Funeral Service will begin at 2:00pm with burial to follow. Dr. Jim Lemons will be officiating.
