Born on August 16, 1933, in Leonard, TX, to Irene and Leota Ray Wilkerson, LaJuana's journey began in a small town filled with big dreams. After graduating high school, she ventured to the vibrant landscapes of Los Angeles, California, where she worked in the Santa Monica and Santa Barbara areas.
It was in a Texas church that LaJuana met her soulmate, Gene Wakefield. Their love story blossomed, leading to a beautiful marriage on May 5. Together, they explored the world, creating memories that would last a lifetime. Eventually, they settled in their home in Plano, TX, where she became a cherished member of First Baptist Plano, dedicating her life to her faith.
LaJuana's resilience was truly inspiring, especially after the loss of Gene in 2009. She embodied simplicity and humility, always eager to give back and show her appreciation with heartfelt, homemade touches. Her sweet yet stern demeanor was a testament to her strength and character, endearing her to all who knew her.
A devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers, LaJuana never missed a game, cheering on her favorite teams with unwavering enthusiasm. Her love for music was equally profound; she played the saxophone from the age of 16, a passion she maintained until recently. Another passion of hers was animals, she loved to donate to local animal shelters. She had her dog Shelly, and a cat named Kitty, whom she cared for dearly.
LaJuana's legacy is one of kindness, generosity, and unwavering faith. She leaves behind a community enriched by her warmth and dedication.
