LaNell Binford Humphrey's Obituary
LaNell Binford Humphrey went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, November 25, 2022, at age 94.
Ruby LaNell was born in Corpus Christi, TX, to Theodore and Lois Weaver Binford on October 29, 1928. As a teen, she enjoyed playing the drums and being involved in youth events at her church. After graduating from high school, LaNell received her Bachelor’s degree from Baylor University. While teaching in Tyler, Texas, she was introduced to Charles F. Humphrey. They married on April 2, 1953, at FBC Rosebud, Texas, where her father, Reverend Theo Binford, officiated. Her most prized accomplishment was the birth of her twin boys, Jay Hudson and Jed Weaver, on November 12, 1954. She loved those boys with all of her heart and walked away from teaching to stay home with them. In 1959, Charles and LaNell moved to Garland, Texas, and joined First Baptist Church of Dallas, where they stayed involved in a multitude of ministries until their health no longer allowed. Throughout her entire life, LaNell held an unwavering faith in God, which she shared with those who surrounded her. From speaking at WMU events, playing tennis well into her 70s, and starting Bible Studies in retirement living, sharing the love of Jesus was always top priority for LaNell. She was known also for her quick wit, constantly making those around her laugh! She will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, her boys Jay Hudson Humphrey and Jed Weaver Humphrey, her parents and her sister, Marilyn Binford Taylor.
She is survived by daughters-in-law, Elizabeth Dawson Humphrey of Dallas, Marsha Humphrey Bowman and husband Willis of Cookville, 6 grandchildren; Meredith Humphrey Bingham and husband Jacob of Amarillo, Bryce Humphrey and wife Stefanie of New York City, Laurelyn Humphrey Adams and husband Franklyn of McKinney, Eryn Humphrey Springer and husband Josh of Dallas, Lindsay Humphrey Booker of Amarillo and Jordan Humphrey of Dallas. 7 great-grandchildren; Blakely Booker, Elliott Springer, Hudson Humphrey, Libby Humphrey, Bobby Springer, Josiah Bingham and Will Humphrey, and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her dearest friend, Millie Wheeless.
LaNell will lay in state from 1:00pm – 5:00pm Sunday, December 4th, 2022, at Restland Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be held Monday, December 5th, 2022, in the Wildwood Chapel at Restland Funeral Home at 10:00am, with Alan Lynch officiating. The service will be preceded by a 9am burial at Restland Cemetery.
