Laquitta 'Quitta' Joy Frankland's Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mrs. Laquitta Joy Frankland, affectionately known as Quitta, on December 24, 2023. She reached the age of 90 as a vibrant, fiercely independent, fun-loving matriarch who was always quick to share a laugh or a game of cards. She leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and joyful memories.
Quitta was born on January 22, 1933, in Appleton, Wisconsin, to Walter J. Wolf and Lorena E. Wolf. She made life-long friends at Appleton High School and often made the newspaper for her high-scoring basketball games. Her journey of love began when she married her high school sweetheart, Ronald E. Frankland. The couple tied the knot on April 13, 1952, in Colorado Springs, Colorado while Ron was serving in the military. They eventually moved to Dallas and shared a blissful married life for 30 years.
Always devoted to her family, Quitta grew up as the eldest of six siblings and later created a nurturing home for her husband and three children. She co-owned and served as bookkeeper for two family businesses, Wooden Novelties and Churland Homes. She later worked in a government tax office until she retired. Quitta had a passion for life, enjoying crafting, diamond art, woodworking, cooking, playing Farkle (beating everyone!), and cheering for the Dallas Cowboys. She was known in the community for her beautiful holiday crafts – everything from decorative wreaths and hand-crafted wooden figures to large scale outdoor decor. Her greatest joy, however, was in hosting family holidays and preparing delicious meals for her loved ones. No visit was complete until a BLT was offered and the great-grandchildren were served ice cream or cookies.
Quitta’s life was marked by the cherished bonds she formed with her family and friends. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ron; son, Ron Frankland, Jr.; brother, Walter J. Wolf, Jr.; granddaughter, Natalie Frankland; and great-granddaughter, Jocelyn Jungman. Her memory is lovingly carried on by her son, Steve Frankland and wife, Cynthia; daughter, Debbie Davidson and husband, Michael; and sisters, Jeanne Wirth; Carol Kilsdonk and husband, Ron; Bonnie Ertl; and Mary Ewig and husband, Jerry.
Quitta’s legacy continues through her grandchildren, Sarah Frankland; Jessica Dunne and husband, Patrick; Ron P. Frankland; Shannon Teicher and husband, Darren; Brandon Thomas and wife, Brittany; and Amanda Jungman and husband, Jason; and her cherished great-grandchildren, Samuel, Isabel, Lydia, Penny, Thea, Camden, Ella, Logan, Leah, and Mila.
Quitta reveled in celebrating life with her six grandchildren, witnessing their graduations, careers, and the start of their own families. She was happiest playing with her ten great-grandchildren. A woman of faith, Quitta’s loving presence will be profoundly missed by family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to have known her.
