Larry Rutledge Byrd's Obituary
Larry Rutledge Byrd, 89, of Dallas Texas went home to his Heavenly Savior on Monday February 19, 2024
He was born in Brownsville, Texas, to Olen Larry Byrd & Faye Rutledge Byrd.
He attended Lubbock High School where he was President of the student body his senior year.
He entered Texas Tech and continued to win recognition for his outstanding abilities. He was elected president of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity; honored in Tech Salutes; was Engineering Representative to the Tech Supreme Court; elected President of the Junior Class; was Distinguished AFROTC Cadet in 1957; and Distinguished Military Graduate. He was a Cadet Colonel in the Tech AFROTC, a member of the American Institute of Industrial Engineers, and on the Engineering Dean’s List. He graduated in 1957 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering.
He married Patricia Ann Bird who preceded him in death on January 3, 2024
From 1958–1960, he served in the 343rd Fighter Group, United States Air Force and attained the rank of Captain.
He was employed as an engineer with EIM Company, Inc. in Houston, Texas from 1957–58 and from 1960–1974 held various management assignments with Exxon Company, USA. In 1974, he became President of All Plastics Molding, Inc. in Addison, Texas.
He was a director and executive committee member of North Dallas Bank and Trust Co. since 1978. He has served as president and a board member of the Addison Business Association.
His Faith is the driving force in his life. He served as Texas Area Adviser for Men’s Bible Study Fellowship for over 25 years, during which time he started and supervised 29 men’s BSF classes in Texas and Oklahoma. He was active at Park Cities Baptist Church where he was a teacher, chairman of deacons and president of the trustees.
He was a director and executive committee member of North Dallas Bank and Trust Co. since 1978. He has served as president and a board member of the Addison Business Association. He was presented the Roaring Lambs award in 2013 and in the Presidents Circle at Dallas Baptist University.
He is survived by children Debbie Price and her husband Philip, Julie Brigman and her husband Boyd, Grandchildren Cole Brigman, Keith Price, Brett and wife Hope Price, Christi (Brigman) and husband Justin Kretchmer and Great granddaughter Aislinn Kretchmer. Nephew Gregg Byrd and Niece Laura Edge.
Memorial Service will be Friday, March 8th in the Sanctuary of Park Cities Baptist Church at 11:00am.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Park Cities Baptist Church.
