Larry Gene Carter's Obituary
Obituary for Larry Carter Larry Gene Carter slipped peacefully from this troubled world into his heavenly home, as he was sleeping, early on Friday morning, May 5th, 2023. He was 85 and left many bereaved family members and friends! He was born in Munroe, OK, July 22, 1937, to Porter Freeman Carter and his wife, Edith Beatrice (Bobbie)Carter, who soon took their baby boy and moved to Dallas, TX, where Larry was raised. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School, where he played both baseball and basketball, and also met his sweetheart, Cindy Bowser. After 2 years at Texas A & M, he proposed and they married in 1957. Larry never abandoned his education dreams, however, completing his bachelor degree, and later, in 1991, his Master of Business Administration degree, all because, he said, he had promised his father-in law he would finish his education! He began his business career in the (then) new field of computer science with LTV, and settled in Dallas. After several more jobs, and 2 children, he went to work for Xerox Corporation and found his working “home,” there, retiring after 25 years, in 1994. During this time, he moved his family to Irving, TX and his 3rd child was born, completing his family, but not his work. He found that his experience could be useful in the Education field. He had always had a dream of being a bearded professor, teaching wide-eyed youths who challenged him with questions and listened in amazement to his thoughtful, wise answers! He soon found Dallas Baptist University (DBU), and taught for them another 25 years, and finally retired for good, in 2020, at age 82. Prior to retiring, in 2002, Larry moved Cindy to Colorado, where they found the beauty of mountain peaks and beautiful mountain friends! Playing golf in summer, skiing through the winter, being very involved in their amazing mountain church, where Larry taught Sunday School, they still found time for children and grand children, looking forward to each and every visit! Then, one summer day in July, 2005, Larry found himself awakening from a motorcycle fall. Four blocked arteries changed life for him! Following surgery and a 17-day coma, he recovered to teach again, but now had to resort to walkers and canes, and using his computer as his classroom where his class was filled with students from all over the world! Cindy moved them back to Texas near family, and after a grueling year of rehab, settled in Bedford, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents and grand parents, Mamo and Papa Gober and Grandma and Grandpa Carter, his wife’s parents, Velma and Crede Bowser, his sister, Geralyn Davis, and his youngest son, Geoffrey Scott Carter, who died just 8 months ago, and many aunts and uncles who loved him! He is survived by his wife of almost 66 years, Cindy Bowser Carter, 2 children, Creda Camille, spouse, Jim Johnson, and son, Ronald Gene, wife Pamela Faye Carter. Other survivors include his sister, Connie Jo, and spouse, Mike Murphy, daughter-in-law, Dina Michelle Carter, grandchildren, Matthew Crede Carter, wife, Crissy Carter, Tyler Gene Carter, wife Katie Campbell Carter, Clayton Scott Carter, wife, Libby George Carter, Caleb Geoffrey Carter, wife Morgan Carter, and granddaughter, Katie Michelle, spouse, Caleb Elliott, great-grandchildren, Cole and Emmy Carter, Abbi and Ezra Elliott, and Clare Carter, nephews, Justin Parker, Zeke Murphy, Barry and Bill Davis, niece, Jena Palmer, and several great-nieces and nephews, and a few great-great nieces and nephews! Larry was a good man, a living husband, a fine loving father and grandfather, a caring friend. May the peace of God go with you! The journey continues! See you soon!
