Dr. Larry Ward Eustace Sr.'s Obituary
Dr. Larry W. Eustace, a resident of Dallas, TX, passed away September 18, 2023, at the age of 78. He was born August 26, 1945, in Olney, TX to Durwood Eustace and Lydia Sadau Flynn. He married Margaret Eustace on December 18, 1966, in Abilene, TX.
The compass of his life was focused by his love for his family, his love for work in the field of nursing education and his love for God and his church. He was a very reliable and hard-working man, who very rarely ever missed a day of work. He was also friendly and jovial; he usually always had a smile on his face and loved to make people laugh. He was passionate about his career as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Educator and dedicated much of his life to advancing the profession of nursing. He also had a great interest in advancing God's kingdom and gave financial support to many ministries and mission projects of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church. He was an elder of the Seventh- Day Adventist Church in San Angelo, Texas. He was also passionate about Christian education and helped support Adventist Educational institutions and assisted children with financial aid to be able to attend Christian Schools. He enjoyed traveling and visited many different countries either during his time as a Missionary or while on vacation. He also enjoyed singing, playing the piano, organ, and his old-fashioned pump organ. His favorite music was Christian hymns.
Dr. Eustace holds the following degrees: A Doctor in Science in Nursing degree, from the University of Alabama at Birmingham; A PHD in Education and Educational Administration, from Columbia Pacific University; A Master of Science in Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing Degree, A Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree, from University of Texas at Austin; An Associate of Applied Science in Nursing Degree, And a diploma in Vocational Nurisng.
Dr. Eustace holds memberships in the following: The American Nurses Association; The Arkansas Nurses Association; Sigma Theta Tau International; and The National League of Nursing.
In 2001, he received the Deans Awards for outstanding graduate from the doctoral program in nursing at the University of Alabama - Birmingham. He practiced in various areas of nursing from staff nursing positions to Director of Nursing at the Ardmore Adventist Hospital before he started his career as a nurse educator. He taught nursing students all over the world including being the director of the school of Nursing at Mwami Misson Hospital in Zambia and teaching Nursing Review Courses in Manila, Philippines.
Being an entrepreneur, he founded and ran the Lydia Sadau School of Vocational Nursing. He was also a pioneer in the area of preparing nurses to take the National Nursing Licensure Examination. He was the first person in the state of Texas and many other states to offer a review course to help students prepare for this examination. It is estimated that he assisted over 50,000 nurses to pass this examination. He has taught nursing in several different nursing schools including his last position at Trinity Valley Community College and was also the Director of the School of Nursing at the University of Arkansas in Monticello. He also enjoyed mentoring and counseling students in their nursing careers and helping them to obtain advanced degrees in nursing.
He was preceded in death by his father, Durwood Eustace and mother, Lydia Sadau Flynn; brothers Durwin and Dewayne Eustace.; nephew Jim Wahlenmaier; brothers-in-law, Ed Wahlenmaier and Bob Campbell.
Survivors include his son, Larry W. Eustace and wife Judy; daughter, Rebekah Shultz and husband, Brian; granddaughters, Abigail and Lauren Shultz; sisters, Shirley Wahlenmaier, Brenda Buchanan and Darlene Garr and husband, Tom; nieces, Toni Buchanan and husband Randall, Candice Smith and husband Justin, Vickie Wahlenmaier, Sunshine Eustace and Dee White and husband Stanley; nephew, Eddie Wahlenmaier and wife, Tammy, Bradley Garr and wife Becca, Jeremy Garr and Justin Garr and Dewayne Eustace, Jr and wife, Rose. He is also survived by many friends from church, work, and students who he taught at TVCC and other nursing schools.
