Larry Lawrence Gentry, a devoted public servant, passed away on July 11, 2024. Born on December 16, 1941, Larry dedicated five decades of his life to serving the community as a member of the Highland Park Police Force. His unwavering commitment to maintaining safety and order made a lasting impact on countless lives.
Larry was not only honorable but also kind, loving, and devoted. His character shone brightly, leaving an indelible mark on those who knew him. Larry’s identical twin brother, Harry Gentry, shared a bond that transcended mere genetics. Their connection remains etched in the memories of those who loved them.
After being married to his first wife, Joan for 37 years, it was fate that brought Larry and Linda together. Larry had brought his brother Harry into the ER where Linda, his future wife, worked as a nurse. The chance encounter blossomed into a partnership filled with love, laughter, and shared memories. Larry cherished Linda, and their journey together was one of mutual support and unwavering companionship.
Larry is survived by his sons: Chad Hobbs, Heath Hobbs, and his daughter, Jessica Gentry. Larry is now reunited in death with his son Steven Gentry, mother Rose Mary Gentry, brother Harry Gentry, and sister Connie Parker.
Larry’s legacy extends to his beloved grandchildren: Steven Gentry, Cole Hobbs, Finley Hobbs, and Grayson Hobbs. His love for family was unwavering, and he adored his children, grandchildren, and loyal canine companions.
Friends, family, and community members are invited to pay their respects during Larry’s public visitation on July 18th at 9:00 AM. The Funeral Service will follow at 10:00 AM, honoring a life well-lived and celebrating the legacy he leaves behind.
