Larry Walker's Obituary
Dallas-based evangelist Larry Walker entered God’s kingdom of heaven September 12, 2014 while on a mission trip in Goa, India, after a lifetime of ministry and international revivals. Larry Walker had been the Ambassador-at-Large for First Baptist Church of Dallas since 1974. His ministry was largely international, including mission work in 127 countries and all 50 states on hundreds of mission trips. Larry had preached God’s word to thousands of people on every continent in revivals and crusades. He ministered often to medical clinics, orphanages, seminaries, and rural and urban churches of all sizes all over the world. Larry was a member of the Conference of Texas Baptist Evangelists, the Conference of Southern Baptist Evangelists and the Fellowship of Baptist World Ministries. When not traveling he taught “Thee Class” adult Bible study, sang in the senior choir and played the violin in the Sanctuary Orchestra at First Baptist Church of Dallas. Larry Walker was born March 18, 1935 in Lewisville, TX and grew up in Albuquerque, NM. He graduated from Baylor University in Waco, TX in 1957, and graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, TX. While at Baylor he met and married his soul-mate, Carmen Kolb, who became his partner in missions and every other facet of their full lives. Larry served pastorates at First Baptist Church of Lewisville, TX and Farmingdale Baptist Church on Long Island, NY. He then became Minister-at-Large of the Metropolitan New York Baptist Association while residing in Chatham Township, NJ. Larry founded VisionWalk International Ministries as a multiple, cross-cultural proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to encourage missionaries, international pastors and church leaders in their local endeavors. Larry was an accomplished violinist, writer, poet and composer. The challenge and testimony of his numerous eye surgeries inspired others who may face a crisis in life. His motto was “God, help me to be intensely spiritual, yet perfectly natural.” He used to profess that one day we will read that Larry Walker has died, but he said to that, “Don’t you dare believe it; I’ll be more alive then, than I am now!” Larry is preceded in death by his father, Pastor Laurence Marvin Walker; mother, Gladys Walker; and sister, Ruth Morrison. Larry is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carmen Walker; son, Vic Walker and grandchildren, Kendall Walker and Brock Walker of Plano, TX; son, Van Walker and daughter-in-law, Carolyn Walker and grandchildren, Kolby Walker and Bethany Walker of Crawford, TX; daughter, Devonna Walker Holland and son-in-law, Michael Holland and grandson, Keillor Holland of Fort Worth, TX; son, Kevin Walker of Dallas, TX and niece, Cathy Morrison Bonner of Pennington, TX. The visitation for Larry will be from 7-9 PM on Friday, September 19, 2014 at Restland Funeral Home. A memorial service celebration of Larry’s life will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, September 20, 2014, in the Sanctuary of First Baptist Church of Dallas, 1707 San Jacinto Dallas, TX 7520l. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Dallas.
