LaRue McCrary Ashe's Obituary
LaRue McCrary Ashe, age 96, of Richardson, TX went to be with her LORD on May 3, 2025. LaRue was born on November 26, 1928 in Gainesville, GA to Carl and Hannah McCrary. After graduating high school in 1945, she went to Georgia State College for Women where she graduated with a major in chemistry and a minor in math.
After graduation she began her first job as a chemist for Alcoa Aluminum Company in Knoxville, TN. Later she would teach school in several towns. In 1950 LaRue met Farris Ashe in Knoxville, TN. They married in 1951 and went on to have 2 daughters, Kathy and Nancy. They were married over 57 years before Farris passed.
LaRue and Farris had the opportunity to live in many cities including Atlanta, Dallas and Seattle and were always volunteering and serving at their local church. Church life was always a priority and privilege for LaRue. She attended regularly, taught Sunday School for many years and served on various committees. She loved her country and would not stand for anyone to say anything negative about it.
LaRue loved to travel, especially bus trips with Traveling Texas Friends. She made many friends through her travel. Mexican Train was her favorite game that she loved to play with family and friends but you really had to watch her or she would try to slip a spare domino in where it didn't belong!!
LaRue was preceded in death by her husband Farris Ashe, parents Carl and Hannah McCrary and sister Montine Dills. She is survived by daughters Kathy Elliott (Rob) and Nancy Wooldridge (Tim), grandchildren David Elliott (Sydney), Kristen Stafford (Jeff), John Wooldridge (Taylor) and Ashlee Scott (Ethan). She is also survived by 5 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at Restland Funeral Home in Dallas on May 8, 2025. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 and memorial service at 2:00. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Samaritan's Purse, an organization dear to her heart.
