Laura Mae Railey's Obituary
Laura Mae (Miller) Railey was born May 25, 1919. Passed away at home on August 25, 2014. Survived by one son, Randolph M. Railey (Randy) of Richardson, Texas; nephew, Michael Miller and wife Maisie of Duncanville, Texas; nephew, Joe Railey of Brookshire, Texas; and niece, Geralyn Sanders of Mineral Wells, Texas. Preceded in death by her husband, Randolph S. Railey; parents, Joseph A. Miller and Annie Laura Miller; and brother, Joe A. Miller. Mrs. Railey, a member of a pioneer Delta County family, was born and reared in Pecan Gap, Texas and graduated from high school in 1935 where she was voted the Best-All-Around girl in school. She received her B.S. and M.E. Degrees from East Texas State University, now Texas A&M-Commerce. She was employed by Dallas Independent School District as a Librarian and Media Specialist for 38 years, retiring in 1985. The last 29 years of her career were at the Dan D. Rogers Elementary School where she was selected as the first “Teacher of the Year” to represent that building. She was also recognized by the North Dallas Chamber of Commerce for outstanding teaching service. During the summer months, she worked at the Dallas Public Library. Mrs. Railey was a long time member of the Lakewood United Methodist Church where she served as Librarian for over 38 years. She was a member of the Wesley-Beacon Sunday School Class and the Wesleyan Guild Group. A memorial service will be held at Lakewood United Methodist Church on Wednesday, September 3 at 2:00 pm, The Reverend Landis officiating.
