Laura Dean Roseman's Obituary
Laura Dean (“Dean”) Roseman, 98, went to be with her Lord May 10, 2025. She was born January 30, 1927, in Keo, Arkansas. Dean had a deep and abiding faith in her Lord Jesus Christ. In Him and in His love she was blessed beyond all measure, and her blessings overflowed to everyone around her. In her last days, she actively expressed her desire for others to know Him and to join her in heaven. She was a member of Highland Park Presbyterian Church.
Dean was preceded in death by her parents, the late Claude and Helen Howell, her beloved husband, George Warren Roseman, Jr., and her three brothers, Carroll Howell, Nick Howell, and Charles Howell. She is survived by her three sons Rick Roseman (Alex), Jim Roseman (Janet), and Bob Roseman (Nancy). Dean is also survived by three sisters, Margaret Pierce, Nona Fitzgibbon, and Mary Kay Polk (Ken), and by her sister-in-law Dolora Howell and daughter-in-love Becky Naibert. She had four grandchildren, Terri Roseman, Nicki Roseman, Alan Roseman (Ashley) and Anne Jennings (Grant). Dean was blessed with eleven great-grandchildren: Caleb, Truett, Laurabeth, Willa, David, Marshall, Averly, Ukko, Lacey, Aliethea, and Maggie.
To Dean, family was everything. This was a legacy of the big family she knew growing up, with her six brothers and sisters and many cousins. It continued after she married and moved to Dallas. She and Warren regularly took their kids back to Little Rock, always resulting in big family gatherings. Their Dallas home became a gathering place when her parents came through on trips to and from south Texas, increasing even more when her baby sister and her husband moved to Dallas. The family gatherings were even more important to Dean after Warren died in 1984 when she was only 57. Her sisters and brothers came to support her, and what began as grief support became an annual fall tradition: The Dallas Howell-Roseman “Shop-a-thon.” For 27 years almost the whole big family descended on Dallas for these events. This was Dean’s favorite annual event except for Christmas itself. Another family tradition grew out of the family grief support for Dean: travel. It began with the 40+ member family reunion cruise a few years after Warren died and was followed by trips to Europe, the UK and Hawaii with her sisters, brothers and spouses. In time, Dean became the family matriarch. Her sisters even dressed her as the Dowager of “Deanton” Abbey at a surprise Downton Abbey themed 90th birthday party in 2017.
Dean was defined by her family and the love that emanated from it. No single word better describes her than love. St. Paul’s description of love in I Corinthians 13 describes Dean. She was always patient and kind, never envious, boastful, arrogant or rude. She never insisted on her own way but always put others first. She was never resentful and never countenanced wrongdoing. Her disposition was always to be concerned about others first and always happy and joyous for others. This trait was a gift to her by God shaped into her by her loving family.
A memorial service for Dean will be held May 19, 2025, at Highland Park Presbyterian Church, 3821 University Blvd, Dallas, TX 75205, at 3:00 p.m. Please join if you can in the joyous celebration of the resurrection and of Dean’s wonderful long life.
