Laurel Valerie Kurzius' Obituary
Laurel Kurzius of Frisco, Texas passed away peacefully on March 28, 2020 after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. Mrs. Kurzius was the daughter of the late Emil and Jane Sattler. She was a devoted mother of three children, a caretaker of others and a gentle, kind person who loved her family deeply.
Originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Laurel attended Whitefish Bay High School, and later pursued her passion for art at the Layton Art School / Minneapolis School of Art. She and her husband Karl settled in Albuquerque, New Mexico and started the DanRex Bakery, later moving to Richardson, Texas to continue raising their three sons. In her later years, Laurel became an accomplished pastel painter, creating portraits for family, friends and clients. Laurel enjoyed her home life with family, her dachshunds, Hansel and Gretel, participating in the Red Hat Club of Texas, drawing, painting, calligraphy and visiting her grandchildren.
Laurel was predeceased by her husband Karl Kurzius, and is survived by her three children, Daniel Kurzius of Atlanta, Georgia, Rex Kurzius of Frisco, Texas, Kent Kurzius, also of Frisco, Texas, and her five grandchildren.
Memorial services at the request of Mrs. Kurzius will be held with immediate family members later this year in Frisco, Texas.
