Laverda Kay Randolph's Obituary
Laverda “Kay” Randolph passed from this life on January 31, 2023 at the age of 66. However, only her mother could call her Laverda without risk of injury. She was born to William Lewis Randolph and Sue Traw Randolph on May 23, 1956 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The geography of her birth gave her a lifelong love for all things University of Michigan and an enduring disdain for Ohio State.
Kay grew up in Ann Arbor Michigan, Jefferson City Missouri, Los Angeles California, and Dallas Texas, where she was tasked with the unenviable job of corrupting three younger sisters – an undertaking she nevertheless performed with relish. Perhaps this was where she developed a lasting love for the written word. A self-professed “bleeding heart liberal”, Kay exhibited the ability to argue even a tree stump into submission.
Kay earned a Bachelor’s of Education from Abilene Christian University and a Masters of Education from East Texas State University. She taught school for over 40 years, training the youth of America in speech, literature, and the dramatic arts. Her greatest passion was the production of plays using middle school and high school actors, achieving stellar results indicative of a miracle worker.
Kay is survived by her daughter Ellie Randolph of Richardson, parents Lewis and Sue Randolph of Waco, sisters Awilda Acuff of College Station, Tammy Horner of Waco, and Karen Nix of Austin, eight nieces and nephews, and twelve grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
A private celebration of Kay’s life will be held at Restland Funeral Home in Dallas, Texas on March 4th, 2023.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be made in Kay's name to the American Cancer Society, https://www.cancer.org
Any flowers purchased please deliver to Restland Funeral Home by 10 am March 4th.
