LaVonne "Bonnie" Jane Dean's Obituary
LaVonne "Bonnie" Dean (Goertzen) passed away on December 30, 2025, at the age of 88. She was born on Christmas Day, December 25, 1937, in Hutchinson, Kansas, to Peter and Helen Goertzen.
She grew up on a rural wheat farm in western Kansas and moved to Hutchinson, Kansas, in junior high. She graduated with a B.S. in Nursing from Wheaton College in 1961. Shortly after graduating from Wheaton, she moved to Dallas with several friends and embarked on her nursing career at Baylor Hospital.
Her nursing career spanned several jobs, including a staff nurse at Baylor and Doctor's hospitals, a clinic nurse at the Southwest Clinic, a county health nurse with the Dallas County Health Department, an operating room nurse at Wylie Hospital, and an operating room nurse for a plastic surgeon at Medical City Dallas. She retired from nursing in 1997.
She attended Scofield Memorial Church since the early 1960's where she met her future husband, Charley Dean. They were married in 1969 and welcomed their child, James, in 1971. She was active in church Bible studies and enjoyed many deep friendships with fellow nurses and church members.
She was an inspiration to her family and friends. She was a great listener and friend. LaVonne "Bonnie" Dean (Goertzen) was preceded to her heavenly home by her parents, Peter and Helen Goertzen; her husband, Charley Dean; and her infant son, Brian.
She is survived by her brother, Larry Goertzen; son James and his wife Eleanor; and three grandchildren, Lauren, Emily, and Andrew.
