Lawrence Gundy's Obituary
Beloved husband, father and friend, passed away on Monday, June 11, 2007 in Dallas, TX. He was born on March 4, 1919 in Broken Bow, Nebraska to Frank and Clara Gundy. Larry grew up on a farm near Nevada, Missouri where he graduated from high school as class valedictorian. He studied journalism and photography at University of Missouri before joining the Army in the fall of 1942. He was accepted into the Air Corp as a Cadet in photography and was later promoted to Lieutenant. He served as a photo interpreter in Europe during 1944 and 1945. Larry returned to University of Missouri after his discharge and earned a Bachelors degree in Soils, Masters in Agronomy and a Ph.D. in Field Crop Genetics. Larry married Audrey Erdsiek on August 17, 1947 in Troy, Missouri. They soon moved to Texas where Larry worked at Texas Research Foundation as a plant breeder. He worked in various jobs over the years and all involved his love of growing plants. He attained the Certified Texas Nurseryman designation while on the staff of North Haven Gardens. Larry was a charter member and Elder Emeritus of Western Heights Christian Church in Garland, Texas. He also had the long term duty of watching over the landscaping of the church. Larry and Audrey raised their three daughters in Garland, Texas. Larry is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Audrey, daughters and son-in-laws Teresa and Davis Chauviere, Deborah Gundy, Nancy and Chuck Davidson; grandchildren Renee Carver and her husband Jason Carver, Ted Chauviere, Cloe Chauviere, Li Chauviere, Melissa Dodson and her husband July Dodson, Han Davidson; one great-granddaughter, Sophia Carver; and numerous nephews, nieces and many friends.
