Lawrence D. Lakey's Obituary
Lakey, Lawrence David 86, of Las Colinas, TX went to be with the Lord May 13th, 2011. He was born in Anderson, Indiana on May 31st, 1924 to Ersell and Russell Leakey He was the third of four boys. They are together again in our Lord’s house. Lawrence (known as “LD” to his wife, “Larry” to his friends and family) graduated from Andrews High School in 1942 and maintained a close relationship with his fellow classmates for the rest of his life. After high school, Larry joined the United States Merchant Marines in 1943. As a Marine, he traveled numerous voyages around the world on Liberty Ships, delivering troops and supplies during WWll. During this time he met the love of his life, Verna Jean Mabrey (Jean). They were married sixty two years and raised four children, Ida, Bob, Mike and Cheryl. Larry lived to provide for the wife he adored more than life itself. He was a father that his children could always depend on for comfort, love, guidance and encouragement. Larry adored and loved his 15 grand children, 25 great grand children and 10 great great grandchildren. To those who were privileged to have known him he was a mentor and friend. He was an entrepreneur and inventor who held many patents. He owned several companies, particularly Allpac, Inc. where he designed and built packaging machinery for the past 50 years. He will be deeply missed by all. He is survived by his wife Verna Jean Lakey, his children Ida Louise Lakey, Robert (Bob) Lakey and his wife Kay, Mike Lakey and his wife Elise and Cheryl Leakey DiMarzio and her husband Tony. His grandchildren are Theresa Logan and her husband Michael, Michael Bell, Scott Leakey, Jeannie Flores, Ranee Matthews, Amber Richards and her husband Bo, Alexis Di Marzio, Matthew Gravley and his wife Megan, Anastasia Reeves and her husband Brian, Andrea Di Marzio, Andria Di Marzio, Nicole Greenman and her husband Chad, Laura Lakey, Christopher Gravley, and Joey Lakey. He is also survived by three sister-in-laws, Alda Leakey, Jean Leakey and Gwen Lakey. Visitation will be on Monday between 6-8pm at Restland Funeral Home located at 13005 Greenville Avenue. Memorial Services will be held on Tuesday at 12:30pm in the Memorial Chapel at Restland.
