L.B. Harris' Obituary
Harris, L. B., Jan. 3, 1918-July 3, 2008. L. B. Harris was born on Jan. 3, 1918, near Combine, in Kaufman County, Texas. He was married to Margaret Ausbrooks in Garland, Texas, on May 21, 1938. He died July 3, 2008, in Lovington, New Mexico. He lived most of his life in Dallas and Kaufman counties, but for the last 17 years he lived with his wife Margaret in Hobbs, New Mexico, next door to his son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Mary Harris. He is survived by his wife Margaret, to whom he had been married for 70 years. He is also survived by a daughter Judy, a son Jim, a daughter-in-law Mary, and the following grandchildren: Hawk Harris, Kevin Gramly, Denny Gramly, Lisa Harris, Rachel Harris Burnett. Other survivors include his sister, Vedith Ragsdale, and these nephews: Sammy Ragsdale, John Ragsdale, Travis Harris, and Douglas Harris. He is also survived by 5 great-grandchildren, Allison, Emily, Jeremiah, Hope, and Pilar. He was preceded in death by his father, Loy Benjamin Harris, his mother Effie Patterson Harris, his brother Lloyd, and his son Jerald, who died in 1985. He was also preceded in death by his sisters Edith, Opal, and Loreta. In World War II, he was a draftsman for the Army Corps of Engineers. He was the pastor of several churches in Dallas County, and served as a missionary for the Baptist Missionary Association of Texas. He also served as the State Secretary for that organization. He delivered sermons and conducted revivals in Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Louisiana, and he oversaw the construction of several church buildings. He was a pastor, counselor, and friend to hundreds of individuals. In addition, he was a great storyteller and a fantastic fisherman who, if he had competed, would have held records for world class crappie. L. B. Harris loved God, church, and country. He was a man who always looked to the happy side of life and wanted everyone around him to be happy. His sisters and his brother were special sources of strength for him. He was a devoted husband and a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Visitation will be Monday, July 7, 2008 from 5:00-8:00pm at Restland. Service will be 10:00 am, Tuesday, July 8, 2008 in Restland Memorial Chapel.
