Lee Carlyle King's Obituary
Lee Carlyle King passed away peacefully on March 2, 2021 in Grapevine, TX at the age of 105.
Lee was born on May 7, 1915 in Gatesville, TX. After graduation from Gatesville High School, she joined her sisters in Dallas and attended business school. In addition to launching a career that included over 30 years of service with Fannie Mae, Lee met and married Kenneth E. King and established their home in north Dallas where they enjoyed 39 years together until Kenneth’s passing in 1991.
Lee and Kenneth were members of Believers Chapel where they developed deep, long-lasting friendships fostered around shared meals, dominoes, travel, and ministry. Lee loved to cook and host meals for friends and family. She particularly enjoyed baking and sharing cakes and cookies. Dinner at the King’s house was often followed by an evening of “42”, a game Lee continued to enjoy throughout her life.
Their travel around the US and abroad was a source of much joy for Lee and Kenneth as well as for the friends and family who were regaled with stories and remembrances.
Lee was an avid reader, devouring the Dallas newspaper from cover to cover daily and always keeping a book close at hand. She was a longtime member of the Times Review Book Club.
Above all, Lee embraced and supported the education of ministerial students and their families at Dallas Baptist University and Dallas Theological Seminary. She adopted several families during their studies in Dallas and remained a proud encourager throughout their years of ministry to the Church. Her generosity to those two institutions of higher learning was matched by her support of The Salvation Army, her favorite vehicle for helping the hurting. Though a budget-conscious shopper and a disciplined saver, Lee possessed a kind and generous spirit exemplified through purposeful and impactful giving.
Although Lee and Kenneth did not have children of their own, she delighted in her nieces and nephews, remembering birthdays and celebrating the milestones of graduations and weddings. She moved to Grapevine, TX in her latter years in order to be close to family.
Lee took seriously the stewardship of all that God had entrusted to her, including family, friends, sound doctrinal teaching, financial resources, and time. Time, abundant in the almost 106 years of her life on earth and for all eternity in the presence of her Lord.
Lee is survived by her nephew, Paul (Cherri) Hodges and her nieces, Helen (Sonny) Parks and Suzy (Charlie) Pruitt; great-niece, Emily (Jordan) Stone, and great-nephew, Drew Hodges; great-great nephews, Hudson, Owen, Haddon, Knox, and Boston Stone, and great-great niece, Sarah Stone.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; parents, John E. and Therese Carlyle; sisters, Leona Carlyle, Gladys Carlyle, Virginia Hodges and husband, Wade; and nephew, Gary McCutchon.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Restland Cemetery of Dallas. Memorials may be made to Believers Chapel, Dallas, Dallas Baptist University, Dallas Theological Seminary, or The Salvation Army
