Lee Mays' Obituary
MAYS, LEE born in Lone Oak, TX in Ocotober of 1926 has died August 16, 2014 in Greenville, TX. Lee was one of fifteen children, he had six brothers and eight sisters. He is preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, B.J. Mays. Lee is survived by his children, Rosanne Mays, Leigh Erickson and her husband, Craig, Stephen Mays and his wife, Jennifer, Evan Roberts and his wife, LuAnn; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He is also survived by his twin brother, Laura Mays of Irving, TX. He received his bachelors degree in Education from East Texas State Teacher’s College, now Texas A&M Commerce. He joined the US Army as an 18 year old during World War II, where he was stationed at Camp Sheridan, IL and was honorably discharged in October 1946. He met his wife, B.J. while he was a Manager of the men’s department at Neiman Marcus in Dallas. However, he spent most of his life self-employed. He had a home remodeling business and prior to retirement contracted to JcPenney to remodel store displays across the Metroplex. A job he truly enjoyed. He spent time bird hunting but even more so was an AVID fisherman. Sitting on a boat or anywhere near the water with a fishing pole in his hand was a good day. To say he was a gardener would be an understatement. He always had a vegetable garden. Whether it was a few square feet in the backyard at his home in Richardson or a couple of acres at his home in Greenville, he seemed to always have something growing that could end up on the table for dinner. Lee was also a tried and true Ranger fan. No matter whether they were on top or the bottom he enjoyed watching on television as well as listening to the games on the radio. At the end of the day, what will be remembered most is the man who loved to sit with coffee and talk. He had his favorite coffee shops in Richardson and found himself a welcoming home for coffee and conversation at the American Legion in Greenville. Needless to say, he will be missed. A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM on Monday, August 18, 2014 at Restland Funeral Home. A graveside service will at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at Restland Memorial Park.
