Lee Morris Walton's Obituary
Reverend Doctor Lee Morris Walton: Sunrise – December 6, 1936 – Sunset – June 19, 2025
It has pleased Almighty God to gather unto himself the eternal soul of our beloved father, brother, grandfather, pastor, mentor, and friend.
Lee Morris Walton was born to the union of Arandos Walton and Beadie Mae Chism-Walton in Hughes Springs, Texas, the first of 8 children. At the age of 5 he united and was baptized at Love Chapel Baptist Church. He attended and graduated from Traylor High School with honors in 1954. He married his life mate, Frankie Mae Broadnax – Walton, of Karnack, Texas, on August 28, 1955. Their union was blessed with 4 children. They joined Bethany Baptist Church, on Webster St. in Dallas, Texas under the spiritual leadership of Reverend A. L. Schley. There Brother Walton served as Decon, Sunday School Superintendent, Youth Director, and Boy Scout Master to the first African American troop in the city of Dallas.
Rev. Walton attended Bishop Collage in Marshall, Texas and graduated with a Master of Science degree in 1958 – Summa cum laud – Salutatorian. He was on the basketball team and sang in the nationally acclaimed Bishop College Choir. During a brief amateur career, Mr. Walton enjoyed the distinction of singing in the chorus of the State Fair Music Hall production of Show Boat. With the distinction of rendering the signature song “Old Man River.”
Rev. Walton began a vocation as an educator and taught at several schools in north Texas including Madison High School and Skyline High School in Dallas, Texas. He taught for 27 years. During these years Mr. Walton earned a Master of Liberal Arts from Southern Methodist University (1975).
Rev. Walton received a higher calling in 1981, when he was Ordained and Licensed in the Gospel Ministry, at Bethany Missionary Baptist Church under Rev. Ernest Hill. Soon after his ordination he founded the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, where he has served as Pastor for these past 43 years. The congregation, under his leadership, joined the Greater Rising Star District Association. Rev. Walton served as Treasurer, Moderator At Large, and he was Moderator at the time of his passing.
Rev. Walton was bestowed the degree of Honorary Doctorate in Ministry by the School of Scripture in Dallas, Texas in 2006.
In recognition of his service to his community he has received awards and acknowledgements from the State of Texas, the City of Dallas, and The White House.
Rev. Walton was preceded in transition by his wife, Frankie Walton, with whom he enjoyed 64 years united in love and service to God, community and family and also by their first-born daughter Carolyn Walton-Mays and his sister Mary Joyce Jordan.
Rev. Walton leaves behind to cherish his memory; Sisters: Myra McCloud, Wilma Hurd (Phillip), Sharon Shead, Charlotte Smith (Ronnie); Brothers: James Walton (Jeanette) and Dennis Walton; Children: Byron Walton, Sandra Walton, and Cynthia Walton-Thompson (Phillip); Grandchildren: Elisia Wilkerson, Karenda Walton, Curtis Mays, Yatice Mays, Phillip Thompson Jr., Michelle Mays; Great-grandchildren, Bria, Aislyn, Karia, Jaylen, Keland, Kamron, Carter; Great-great grandchildren, Bronx and Keland Jr. and a host of relatives, students and friends.
