Leila Houseman Shannon's Obituary
Leila Houseman Shannon was born on Aug. 31, 1926, in Dallas, Texas and went home to be with her Lord and Savior on May 23, 2017, at the age of 90. She was the daughter of Donelson H. and Marion Houseman. After growing up in Dallas, she attended the University of Texas at Austin where she was a Pi Beta Phi. She married Dr. Arthur Shannon on December 5, 1952, and they have three devoted children, Don, Caroline and Leila. Leila never met a stranger and was genuinely interested in each person she met. She loved teaching Sunday School to the 5-year-olds for over 30 years at Park Cites Baptist Church. She was a member of The Dallas Woman’s Club, The Dallas Garden Club, National Society of Colonial Dames, Pi Beta Phi Alumnae, The Dallas Country Club, and was a past Idlewild debutante. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Arthur W. Shannon, whom she adored, and three beloved children and their spouses, Don and Marcia Shannon, Caroline and Palmer McArthur, and Leila and Jamie Cornelius. She is also survived by nine grandchildren: Don (Meghan), William (Sarah), and Robert (Samantha) Shannon, Palmer (Brynn), Shannon, Peter, and Sam McArthur, Leila Cornelius Redwine (Blake), Carlton Cornelius and two great-grandsons. She is survived by her brother Don M. Houseman and his wife, Katy, and many nieces and nephews. Services will be held Friday, June 2, 2017, at 2 PM at Park Cities Baptist Church in Ellis Chapel. Memorials may be made to Park Cities Baptist Church or Buckner International for orphans. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243.
