Lela Jo Bond's Obituary
Lela Jo Bond, born October 18, 1932 in Dorchester, Texas to parents Hoy Joe Trammell and Montee Ray Nichols Trammell.
Lela grew up in the Kemp, OK area. She loved playing basketball for Kemp High School and graduated at seventeen.
She married Tommie John Bond on March 1, 1953.
Lela was the mother to three daughters; Donna Horn, Kathy Stephens, and Jan Hazelip.
She devoted her homemaking skills in raising her family and was a devoted wife for 53 years; the best Memaw to six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.
Lela became a born-again believer in Jesus Christ in 1955. Members of Miller Road Baptist Church came to welcome new residents to the city of Garland. That evening mom gave her life to the Lord Jesus. A few weeks later her husband, Tommie, surrendered to Christ in the garage of their home and both remained faithful to the cause of Christ until they were called to their eternal home.
Lela was a Sunday school teacher for over 53 years. She began teaching toddlers at Miller Road Baptist just after becoming a Christian. Lela and Tommie were charter members of Lavon Drive Baptist Church in 1961, where she taught middle school girls for a few years. Lela and Tommie changed church membership, to accommodate their teenage daughters to go to church with their friends at South Garland Baptist Church in 1970, where again, Lela taught a Sunday school class there.
Lela and Tommie were members at First Baptist Sachse in Sachse, Texas from 1980 until 2008. Lela taught the ladies class for 18yrs. They both were fun-loving members of the Prime Timers seniors’ group at FBC Sachse; going on grouptrips, Christian gatherings, working fund-raisers for those trips, while both in service for the Lord.
After twenty years working for AT&T, Lela retired in 1990 and joined an in-depth five-year Bible study program at FBC Garland.
Lela moved to Commerce, Texas to live with one of her daughter’s and joined Old Concord Baptist in Greenville, Texas in 2008.
Lela remained faithful in her tithes and offerings and gave to many church building programs even when unable to attend church. Lela and Tommie saw the importance of the work and Word of the Lord moving and marching onward.
We have lost a fifth-generation matriarch, but we will continue for generations to come, as we carry forward her loving, generous, kind, compassionate and Christ-like heart due to the beautiful legacy left in her family.
Lela was preceded in death by her husband, Tommie Bond, parents, Hoy Trammell and Montee Ray Trammell, brother, Neil Trammell, and granddaughter, Halie Hazelip Braley.
Lela is survived by Donna Horn of Wylie, Texas; Kathy Stephens and husband, James of Princeton, Texas; Jan Hazelip and husband, Steve of Commerce, Texas; five grandchildren; Shelly Baldwin and husband Mike of Royse City, Texas; Jeff Moulder and wife Esther of Josephine, Texas; Matt Morrow and wife Ashley of Wylie, Texas; Gregg Moulder of Princeton, Texas; Heath Hazelip and wife Jen of Greenville, Texas. Eight great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
