Leland Harris Jr.'s Obituary
Leland Harris Jr, 83, of Lewisville, Texas, passed away in his home surrounded by his family on January 28, 2017. Born in Nuyaka, Oklahoma to Leland Harris and Grace Mathis, he worked for Phelps Dodge and retired after 43 years of service. Leland, known to many as JR, was fortunate to have lived a full, rich life. JR is survived by his devoted wife of over twenty years, Alma E. Harris, and children: Gracie M. Harris, Gloria Boyd, Rita A. Jordan, Johnny Ibarra, America (Chris) Samano, Lorena (Wes) Watson, Abraham (Ruth) Ramirez as well as many loving grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family. JR was a wonderful and caring father, husband, grandfather and friend to all. One of JR’s greatest accomplishments was being baptized in his faith in April 1974. His passions in life were preaching his ministry door to door and spending time with the brothers and sisters of his congregation. He took pleasure in spending time outdoors, riding bikes with his son, and having outings with his family. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting. JR was a very loyal and dependable friend, always there to give a helping hand. He was one of kind and will be greatly missed by all. Those who knew JR in the congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses will fondly remember referring to him as ‘Candyman’. Every Sunday he would bring candy and special treats to the children at the Kingdom Hall. He was always full of love and ready to share it with everyone he knew. He could brighten your day with his smile. A special thank you to Season’s Hospice in Grapevine, Texas for their care and support. Also thank you to Mike Day, Thomas DeLozier and team at Restland Funeral Home for all of their help with the arrangements and care.
