WILLIAMS, LEMUEL RAYBURN “RAY” “PAPAW” Ray was born in Mexia, TX. to Lemuel Houston (Diamond) and Mable Ellea Williams on April 1, 1927. The first thing his dad said about him ‘I didn’t know if he was going to bark or cry’ because he was so hairy. He graduated from Mexia High School in 1944. Ray was an outstanding quarterback High School Football player and was 2nd high scorer in the state in 1944 and All-Regional Back. He won a scholarship to Baylor University at Waco in football but World War Two interrupted his college and he went into the Navy in 1944. He was honorably discharged in 1946 and continued his football scholarship at Paris Jr. College and graduated from North Texas State University. While still in college he worked nights at General Dynamics in Ft. Worth driving from Denton, TX. In Denton he was President of the Jaycee’s in 1959 and won awards for outstanding contribution. He was a member of the Dallas Golf Association for many years. His love of Golf won him many tournaments and awards in golf in the Dallas area. Ray has owned ‘Ray Williams Business Forms’ since 1987. He had a quick wit and sharp tongue. You had to be quick or you’d get ‘zinged’ before you knew it. He has requested at his funeral you tell something funny you remembered about him.
