However, upon returning to Texas she was denied the use of her nursing license, and later became a nursing aide at Parkland Hospital.
After moving to Dallas, Tx she joined Macedonia Baptist Church in 1958 where she served as Missionary President as well as on the church board of trustees. Lena continued to grow her love of plants and flowers by participating in the Bud and Bloom Garden Club at church as well. She was a sought after house manager and beloved caregiver. After marrying Leon Williams in 1966, she began to spend the majority of her time focusing on her philanthropic endeavors. True to her giving nature, the remainder of her life was filled with supporting various organizations such as the Kidney Foundation and organizations committed to finding a cure for cancer (in memory of her late husband). She was an Eastern Star for many years and a member of the Mary Elizabeth Grand Chapter O. E. S. Of Texas Inc. working under the jurisdiction of St. Matthew Grand Lodge A.F.A.M of Texas Inc.
